Field Trip to South Padre and the Del Rio, Texas. |
|
We’ve now been in south Texas for 2 weeks. The first week was 100 degrees and we were loving the heat. The second week was cold and rainy. We have been moving along the Texas/Mexico border. There has been tons of media coverage regarding all the drug violence along the border. We have been lucky and not seen this. We see plenty of border control vehicles and welcome all the extra protection.
Anyway, last week Brent’s parents came to visit. Ron did some fishing on Falcon Lake and Pat and I took the kids to South Padre for two days. We had a really good time. Mason and Makayla love to be with Pat (mimi) and she is always a blast. She loves to explore and seems to find something fun at every town we visit. We just missed the spring break partiers. The kids love the ocean and we are can’t wait for our family vacation in Destin this April.

After our mini-vacation we had to get back to work. The first tournament for the 2009 Bassmaster Elite Series is at Lake Amistad in Del Rio, Texas. The kids and I have been spending plenty of time with our fishing friends. We have such a great bond with the families the travel the BASS circuit. We usually camp next time Alton and Jimmye Sue Jones, Chris and Holly Lane, Aaron and Leslie Marten, Randy and Robin Howell and Todd and Angie Faircloth. There are many more… but these are the pros with kids that we play with. These families are amazing and I love them all. Although the guys are competing, they also wish each other success. That’s just one of the things that make this sport so different and unique.
After the tournament, Brent took the kids and I out on the Pecos River and we saw caves that were painted over 10,000 years ago. We really do get the chance to see some amazing things. Later we went to have dinner with 6 other pro anglers and their families. We have had a great week.
We are now heading to Dallas for a few days of play. My brother and his family live only ten minutes from Brent’s uncle and his kiddos. We can visit lots of family and let the kids have some fun before we head to Lake Dardanelle at Russelville, Arkansas. Check out all the pics form the past two weeks!!
